DIY Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs with Veggies and Spices

This DIY recipe makes four vibrant colors to make your Easter egg tradition just as fun as you remember from your childhood — just make sure to wear gloves to avoid staining your fingers and countertops! Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs


Blue (Purple Cabbage)

1-1/2  cups water

1  cup packed shredded purple cabbage

1  tablespoon distilled white vinegar 


Pink (Beets)

1-1/2  cups water

1  cup raw beets, cut into half-inch cubes

1  tablespoon distilled white vinegar


Yellow (Ground Turmeric)

1-1/2  cups water

1  tablespoon ground turmeric

1  tablespoon distilled white vinegar


Orange (Onion Skins)

1-1/2  cups water

1  cup lightly packed yellow onion skins

1  cup lightly packed yellow onion skins 

1  tablespoon distilled white vinegar


INSTRUCTIons

1.  Combine water, purple cabbage, and vinegar in small saucepan.


2.  Bring mixture to a boil.


3.  Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes.


4.  Cool, then carefully strain the liquid into a clean mason jar.


5.  Repeat Step 1-4 for each vegetable/spice.

6.  Add hard-boiled eggs to each jar, ensuring that they are completely submerged in the liquid.


7.  Let eggs stand in the liquid at least 30 minutes at room temperature, or you can leave them overnight in the refrigerator for a more vibrant color.


8.  Remove eggs from the jar, pat dry, and store in the refrigerator.

Give your eggs a light glossy sheen by wiping them with a paper towel that has been dampened by a few drops of olive oil.
